Imagine my delight as I was flipping through WWD today and stumbled upon a full-page article about New York Fashion Week’s (NYFW) new home, Lincoln Center. NYFW takes place from September 9 to 16 this year and I CANNOT wait.
The confirmed designers showing at the new venue? Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Carolina Herrera, Anna Sui, J.Mendel, Badgley Mischka, Isaac Mizrahi, Lela Rose, Dennis Basso, Ports 1961, Cynthia Rowley, and Charlotte Ronson will all show their collections. So will Prabal Gurung, a very hot up-and-coming designer. He’s part of the flock of new designers who has been blessed by the patron saint of American fashion, Mrs. Obama.
Having some young blood is good news for Lincoln Center; in the last few years, younger and hipper designers have been showing at the MAC & Milk Studios downtown. A lot still will, but Lincoln Center promises to have some shiny new tech facilities (which were sorely lacking in Bryant Park) and more space in general.
I’m just excited to see how the neighborhood handles a week’s worth of celebrities, general fashion ridiculousness, and lots of new traffic.
I’ll end with a quote from the article: “Among other things, Fashion Week’s move to the Upper West Side is expected to attract a more sophisticated crowd than the cell-phone-camera-shooting onlookers known to clog the steps at Bryant Park near the main entrance.” Damn. Straight. That’s us–sophisticated.
